Pinging smartphones, Netflix cliffhangers, who’s going to do the school run – the distractions of modern life can make it difficult to stay focused in meetings and events. And according to a new survey of more than 1,000 desk-based workers, the economic cost of lost productivity is staggering.

Research conducted by London conference and events venue, The QEII Centre, has found that the cost to the UK economy of people drifting off during events has risen to £20.7 billion.

To find out what this all means – and what event planners can do to fight back against the distraction epidemic, Paul Harvey is joined by James Bogle, head of marketing and communications at The QEII Centre, and Lea Karam, consulting director of Behave and a multi-award-winning behavioural scientist.
