Yokohama will host the 28th International Conference on Statistical Physics (STATPHYS28) in 2022 – the first time the meeting has been held in Japan for 54 years.
The city saw off competition from Beijing to host the meeting, which is expected to attract 1,200 delegates, after a successful bid based largely on its local expertise.
Local chair Prof. T.Deguchi, from Ochanomizu University, spearheaded the winning bid, citing the country’s long history of high-level research on statistical physics.
The event will take place at Pacific Convention Plaza Yokohama (PACIFICO).
Other factors in winning the bid were ease of access from around the world, as well as safeness and cooperation among the local committee and organizations in hosting the event.
