A convention centre shrugged off ‘challenging economic and geo-political’
conditions by attracting almost 200,000 more visitors through its doors than
last year.
International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) welcomed
1.2m visitors in the last 12 months - up from 1m in 2023 - who contributed an
estimated A$718m to the economy.
Anita Mitchell, chief executive of Placemaking NSW, said the
venue was a ‘driving force behind the state’s strong visitor’ which ‘shined an
international spotlight on local talent’.
ICC Sydney hosted 25 international conventions, 81 national
conventions, 62 exhibitions, and a record-breaking number of 99 live
entertainment events, while supporting ‘community causes.’
CEO Adam Mather-Brown said: “We are proud to
collaborate with our customers, through our Legacy Program, to see our goals to
reduce our environmental impact and positive social impact amplified throughout
the year—all of which contribute to our ability to make a difference for the
broader NSW community.”
The Legacy Program,
which provides tips and tools for event organisers to deliver sustainable,
inclusive, accessible, creative and innovative events by engaging communities,
increased the number of activations to 325 this year – almost double the prior
year’s 132 activations.
