Wellington is
positioning itself as a leading destination for technology and innovation after
signing an agreement with Tech New Zealand to host a trio of tech conferences over
the next three years.
The partnership
with Tech New Zealand will see Wellington host FinTech NZ Hui and Digital Trust
Hui Taumata from 2026-2028 and Aotearoa AI Summit in 2026, 2028 and 2030.
Tech New Zealand, a member-funded NGO, already runs its National Cybersecurity Summit and
Digitising Govt Conference at Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition
Centre.
This move, also
supported by other Wellington-based tech organisations, including
WellingtonNZ’s subsidiary and innovation hub Creative HQ, is part of a
collaboration to ‘strategically identify conferences that support the city’s
Tech Sector strategy,’ said Business Events Wellington manager Irette Ferreira.
“We know
business events play an integral part in driving knowledge sharing and
collaboration in key sectors. Hosting these events will strengthen those
connections and accelerate the local tech sector, fostering job creation, entrepreneurship,
and global market growth.”
Tech New
Zealand strategic programmes director, Yvonne Gill, said: “Growth is a focus
area of impact for our organisation, and as such, we’re committed to providing
opportunities for our members and the wider tech ecosystem to connect and build
capability all year round.
"Conferences are key moments of confluence that build
knowledge, forge partnerships and supercharge growth – we look forward to
seeing this impact playout in our nation’s capital.”
