ICCA, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), is making an historic return to Africa after announcing its annual congress will be held in Rwanda next year.

The 66th Congress will be held in the capital Kigali, from 24–27 October 2027, marking ICCA’s return to the African continent for the first time in 20 years,

The announcement also confirmed Muscat, Oman, as the host destination for the 67th ICCA Congress, to be held 12–15 November 2028.

ICCA said the selection of Kigali reflects its commitment to rotating the meeting across regions and supporting the development of business events communities worldwide.

Janet Karemera, CEO of the Rwanda Convention Bureau, said the congress represented a significant milestone for the continent.

“It is a great honour for Rwanda to host the ICCA Congress and to welcome the global association community back to Africa for the first time in twenty years,” she said.

“This historic occasion reflects the continent’s growing prominence within the international MICE industry and provides an opportunity to showcase Rwanda’s capabilities alongside the collective potential of our regional partners.”

ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath said the upcoming congresses aligned with ICCA’s 'global approach'.

He said: “Each congress offers an opportunity for our community to come together, exchange ideas, and support the continued development of the business events industry.”

The 2028 ICCA Congress in Muscat will focus on cross-regional collaboration, positioning Oman as a meeting point linking Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
