A new body aimed at boosting Glasgow’s attractiveness as an international conference destination - amongst other things - has been given the go-ahead, following approval by the city’s administration committee.
The Destination Marketing and Management Organisation (DMMO) will bring together staff and expertise from across the city’s investment, tourism, marketing, and conference sectors.
The consolidated team will include specialists from Invest Glasgow, the Glasgow Convention Bureau and Glasgow Life Destination Marketing.
The move follows calls from business leaders to streamline and strengthen the city’s promotional efforts under a single, unified brand.
“Glasgow has incredible assets, chief amongst which are its people,” said Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken. “What we need to get better at is telling our story — to the world and, crucially, to our own citizens. The new DMMO will serve as the city's voice to the world, uniting all those things which make Glasgow great under the one compelling brand.”
The DMMO’s creation comes after a report commissioned by the City Council, business leaders, and Glasgow Airport highlighted the need for an integrated approach to destination marketing. While each existing team was praised for strong individual performance, the report found their efforts could be more effective if unified.
Invest Glasgow has been credited with securing major foreign direct investment over the past 15 years, helping position Glasgow as Scotland’s leading destination for inward investment and the top large city in Europe for FDI.
The Glasgow Convention Bureau — named the UK’s best for 18 consecutive years at the M&IT Awards — acts as the city’s first point of contact for conference organizers and works with venues, hospitality providers, and the academic sector.
Glasgow Life operates campaigns such as “Visit Glasgow” and “People Make Glasgow,” promoting the city’s cultural and tourism offerings and supporting its visitor economy.
Business and civic leaders welcomed the DMMO’s formation as a timely and strategic step.
“We welcome the establishment of a new Destination Marketing and Management Organisation (DMMO) for Glasgow,” said Stuart Patrick, CEO of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
“This joined-up approach will be instrumental in unlocking Glasgow’s full economic potential — driving tourism, attracting major business events, and securing sustainable investment that benefits the city and its communities.”
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, chair of the Glasgow Economic Leadership Board, called Glasgow “a magnificent city” and said the DMMO would support “ambitious and integrated” campaigns to boost innovation, investment and opportunity.
Kam Jandu, CEO of AGS Airports, said the DMMO would help make the case for stronger connectivity with global airlines. “The creation of a dedicated DMMO is a real statement of intent,” he said. “I have no doubt it will help us to further elevate our global standing.”
The DMMO is expected to be operational before the end of 2025, with staff transitions from existing teams already in progress.
