Glasgow
is experiencing a significant growth in delegate numbers from major European
conferences coming to the Scottish city.
The
European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) recently held its
largest congress to date in Glasgow, attracting more than 7,000 participants.
This event is part of a broader trend of expanding congresses in the city,
highlighting Glasgow’s growing appeal for international medical and scientific
gatherings.
ESTRO’s
success follows the 50th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Blood and
Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), which drew 4,700 in-person attendees, and the
European Conference on Cystic Fibrosis, where 2,200 researchers, scientists,
and medical professionals convened at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).
"There
has been tremendous leadership from our ambassadors and the scientific
community within Glasgow to attract and grow these exceptional meetings,” said
Kathleen Warden, director of conference sales at the SEC. “We are delighted
that events prosper in our city."
Looking
ahead, Glasgow and the SEC are set to welcome two major events in the coming
years: the European Association of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in
June 2025 and the European Renal Association (ERA) in June 2026. These
conferences are expected to attract 8,000 and 9,000 delegates, respectively.
Aileen
Crawford, head of tourism and conventions at Glasgow Convention Bureau, added, “Glasgow Convention Bureau is delighted to partner with the SEC
to support these prestigious European Association meetings. We are
incredibly proud of our ‘Team Glasgow’ approach, where hosting events such as these are
recognised as incredibly significant and important to the city’s conference community.”
