Palma: emerging hub for global medical congresses
Already popular for corporate events and associations, the Palma Convention Centre has welcomed its first international medical congress with hopes of more to come
With excellent direct connections to all major European cities, Palma has been hosting large-scale events in a variety of sectors since the opening of its congress centre in 2017.
In April last year it was proud to host the European Conference on Interventional Oncology with almost 2,000 attendees. Marking the opening of the destination to these important events, it was the first international medical congress subject to European compliance to be hosted at the venue. This October it will welcome leading international experts to PAAM 2025, organised by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Featuring high-level plenary sessions, cutting-edge symposia and interactive workshops, it will focus on the global burden of paediatric allergy and asthma.
The city, together with the excellent facilities of its convention centre and wide hotel offering, provides an ideal proposition for medical congresses in the autumn and winter seasons, when delegates can enjoy magnificent warm weather, far from the low temperatures of most European countries.
Attendees can use the efficient A1 urban transport service, which connects the airport and Centre in just 15 minutes.
Palma Convention Centre
The stylish and sustainable design of the Palma Convention Centre was conceived by architect Francisco Mangado, making the most of local materials such as the golden Marés sandstone that is such a feature of the beautiful island of Majorca. The Centre has a wave-inspired structure, offers lots of natural daylight in its event spaces and lovely views of this Balearic island’s spectacular coastline.
Managed by Melia Hotels International, the Centre’s adaptable spaces cater to events of all sizes. Its two state-of-the-art auditoria seat 1,966 and 471 delegates respectively and are supported by advanced audio-visual technology. These are complemented by a spacious 2,000 sqm exhibition area and versatile meeting rooms while a large terrace allows delegates to gather outdoors.
Directly connected via its third floor is the Meliá Palma Bay hotel, offering convenience and easy access for attendees. In addition, Meliá Hotels International offers nearly 1,000 rooms across the city with a single point of contact.
Picturesque Palma
Majorca’s beautiful capital city offers a wealth of cultural and leisure experiences. The historic Old Town, with its magnificent landmarks including Palma Cathedral and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, invites visitors to explore. There are fabulous restaurants, bars and boutiques to discover in its narrow streets. Attendees can also simply relax on the city's lovely beaches.
Just 20 minutes from the city, the stunning Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - offer breathtaking natural beauty, perfect for hiking, cycling and exploring its pretty villages.
