Introducing the MeetEngland Impact Network: uniting experts, elevating excellence
The MeetEngland Impact Network initiative is here, championing English destinations and their academic and industry leaders who help secure world-class events. And it has just unveiled its Roll of Honour 2026
England’s global reputation for knowledge, innovation and collaboration provides an ecosystem of expertise for events. And the newly launched MeetEngland Impact Network has been created to celebrate just that. It marks an exciting step forward for the country's international business events community – bringing together, supporting and championing the academic and industry leaders who play a pivotal role in attracting high-value international conferences and congresses.
As conferences are increasingly attracted to sectors of excellence in their host destination, a strong collaboration between convention bureaus, universities, ambassador networks and industry leaders is ever important - particularly in the bid process and formation of local organising committees. England’s success in attracting international association conferences is rooted in the depth of its knowledge economy and the maturity of its ambassador culture.
With its globally recognised strength across key sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, technology and advanced manufacturing, clean energy, finance, creative industries, research and academia, events in England create lasting collaboration, research exchange and sector impact, aligning with the UK Government’s Growth Strategy.
England’s Ambassador and sector networks
England’s city convention bureau ambassador programmes, or academic and sector networks, are some of the most established in Europe, and one of the driving factors behind the Impact Network.

The Impact Network plays a vital role in championing and strengthening ambassador programmes and sector-academic networks, recognising them as a cornerstone of England’s international business events strategy. These programmes harness the credibility, expertise and global networks of academic and sector leaders - individuals whose influence is often the deciding factor in securing major international conferences.
MeetEngland Impact Network – Roll of Honour 2026
The Roll of Honour celebrates the exceptional individuals whose academic excellence and sector leadership have been instrumental in bringing major international conferences to England. This year, nine outstanding leaders have gone above and beyond, earning their well-deserved place on this prestigious list.
Those individuals are:
Karol Janik, Technology Manager for Robotics & Automation, The Manufacturing Technology Centre Ltd, was instrumental in securing the European Robotics Forum (ERF) for Birmingham in 2027. His work highlights the depth of expertise within the West Midlands’ advanced manufacturing community and demonstrates how sector leadership can translate directly into major international conference success.
Prof Fabrizio Salvatore, Professor of Physics, University of Sussex, played a key role in positioning Brighton as a centre for international scientific exchange through the hosting of major particle physics conferences, including CALOR 2022 – the 19th International Conference on Calorimetry in Particle Physics, showcasing the city’s academic excellence to a global audience.
Savita Willmott, Chief Executive, The Natural History Consortium, was central to the successful hosting of Wild Summit UK in 2025 in Bristol, delivered in collaboration with Wildlife and Countryside Link. Her leadership within the nature and environment sector helped establish Bristol as a focal point for environmental dialogue, collaboration and policy engagement.
Nathan Spencer, Managing Director, UKREiiF, has been pivotal in establishing Leeds as the home of The UK’s Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) since 2022. His leadership has brought together senior decision-makers and industry leaders, placing Leeds at the heart of national infrastructure and real estate discussion at this globally acclaimed business festival.
Prof Carsten Welsch, Head of Accelerator Science, University of Liverpool, was instrumental in securing and hosting the 14th International Beam Instrumentation Conference (IBIC) in 2025 in Liverpool. His work highlighted the city’s strengths in physics, engineering and accelerator science to an international community of experts.
Prof Krishna Menon, Consultant Liver Transplant and HPB Surgeon, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, led successful bids to host major global surgical congresses in London, including the International Society of Liver Surgeons (ISLS) in 2027 and the International Laparoscopic Liver Society (ILLS) World Congress in 2030. His leadership reinforces London’s reputation as a global centre for medical excellence and surgical innovation.
Prof Tim Cable, Director of the Institute of Sport, Manchester Metropolitan University, played a key role in securing the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) Annual Congress in 2027 for Manchester, underlining the city’s strength in sport science research and international collaboration. The congress welcomed thousands of world-leading scientists to the city and contributed to the Institute’s growth strategy as a global hub for scientific exchange and innovation.
Dr Rosario Aguilar, Senior Lecturer, Newcastle University, was instrumental in bringing the International Society of Political Psychology Annual Meeting in 2026 to Newcastle, demonstrating the city’s expertise and leadership in comparative politics and social sciences.
Prof David Sanders, Professor of Gastroenterology, Royal Hallamshire Hospital & The University of Sheffield, has been central to Sheffield’s reputation as a hub for clinical and academic exchange through the long-standing hosting of the Annual Sheffield Gastroenterology Symposium, the 20th International Celiac Disease Symposium in 2024, and the biennial National Gut Dietitians’ Meeting. His leadership has positioned Sheffield as a recognised centre for gastroenterology and healthcare conferences.
England’s association strength is built on a co-ordinated national network, deep sector expertise, established ambassador culture and strong city–university–industry collaboration. Together, these foundations underpin the power of the MeetEngland Impact Network.
