Taipei – Taiwan’s dynamic capital city

Taiwan's economic, political and cultural centre, Taipei is a modern cosmopolitan metropolis, lively and exuberant. Ancient incense-veiled temples blend with the neon-lit streets buzzing with life. Dozens of world-class restaurants and bustling night markets ensure Taiwan’s culinary scene is one of the highlights.

Taoyuan – home to the Aerotropolis and high-tech industries

The city is home to Taiwan's largest airport, Taoyuan International Airport, close to Taipei and benefiting from substantial infrastructure projects, Taoyuan is developing rapidly.

Host to more than a third of Taiwan's top 500 manufacturing companies, its industries include traditional, high-tech and optoelectronic industries, including TFT LCD, laptops, telecommunications, nanotechnology, semiconductors and automotive components. The city is home to 22 industrial parks and high-tech zones while the government's ‘International Airport Park Development Act’ is encouraging private-sector involvement and fostering the development of the Aerotropolis. Spanning 6,000 hectares around the airport, this project aims to create a competitive global hub featuring free trade zones, logistics centres, aerospace maintenance zones, agricultural product areas, international exhibition centres, luxury hotels and shopping complexes.

A new convention and exhibition centre, Messe Taoyuan, will open in October 2024.

Taichung – driving growth and advancement

Centrally located and Taiwan's second most populous city, Taichung is a thriving hub for manufacturing and technology boasting several key industrial zones. Centre of the machine tool and bicycle industries, it is home to major bicycle brands. Thanks to collaborative working and an attractive business environment, Taiwan is now a top-tier global manufacturer of bikes and bicycle components, a host to R&D centres for major international brands and one of the world’s most important bicycle expos: Taipei Cycle.

The development of the Central Taiwan Science Park has helped propel growth in its high-tech industries, particularly in precision machinery where it is now a global leader. An important centre for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the city is at the forefront of Taiwan's industrial development, driving economic growth and technological advancement.

The city is host to large-scale industry-related events, such as the Taiwan International Machine Tool Show. The Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center will open in 2025.

Tainan – an ancient capital

The oldest city on the island and its ancient capital, Tainan is famous for its magnificent gastronomy, cultural heritage and the Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, regarded as one of the world's three major folk festivals. Situated in the south, facing the Taiwan Strait on its western coast, it boasts a comprehensive biotechnology industry cluster, encompassing three major sub-industries: pharmaceuticals, applied biotechnology and medical equipment, with over 400 manufacturers.

A major player in the solar energy industry, the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City was established in 2016. It is also an important centre for textiles, clothing and shoe manufacturing. Thanks to its geographic location and weather, it is renowned for its orchids and the Taiwan Orchid Technology Park.

Kaohsiung’s Asia New Bay Area is driving change

The Asia New Bay Area in Kaohsiung is home to the 5G AIoT Innovation Hub, a huge endeavour designed to drive industrial transformation. The site will include an innovation headquarters, a human resources training centre plus trial and testing space for a wide range of smart infrastructure helping the implementation of industrial developments in smart lifestyles, environmental protection and smart cities.

As Taiwan's industrial powerhouse, Kaohsiung has for decades been the centre of the island’s petrochemical and steel industries. Now undergoing rapid change and proactively diversifying its economy, it is embracing emerging industries including electric vehicles, precision medicine, cultural and creative industries and digital.

The city is home to the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center which has met both ISO14064:2018 Greenhouse Gases and ISO50001:2018 Energy Management System standards.
