Getting creative in Taiwan

Weaving Taiwan’s cultural attractions and indigenous heritage throughout an event is a great way to enrich the experience for attendees at international association events in this island nation

When IAPCO’s Annual Meeting and General Assembly was held in Taipei in February, the theme ‘We are of a Tribe’ highlighted the unity and shared values of the IAPCO global community while honouring Taiwan’s indigenous heritage. The event incorporated rich cultural elements, including a logo inspired by indigenous weaving patterns symbolising interconnectedness, and an opening performance that celebrated traditional music and storytelling. The programme featured local speakers, including voices from indigenous communities, offering attendees a meaningful cultural experience. Delegates took curated field trips to Dadaocheng, once the heart of Taiwan’s 19th-century tea trade, where they visited a 135-year-old tea factory and explored vibrant historic streets. Another tour showcased Taipei’s urban contrasts — ancient temples standing beside modern architecture. The event successfully blended tradition, innovation and cross-cultural exchange, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.

Creating memorable local experiences

Taiwan is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s top business event destinations. With many cities offering state-of-the-art infrastructure, thriving business environments, advanced technology and vibrant cultural scenes, the island provides excellent opportunities for international business events. And the strength of its regional diversity offers event organisers the opportunity to create memorable, local experiences that add value and enrichment to delegates’ stays.

The tea culture showcased in Dadaocheng can also be experienced in Taoyuan, where visitors can explore Daxi Old Street, reminiscent of Dadaocheng’s charm, and enjoy tea-infused cuisine at the Taiwan Hakka Tea Culture Museum. In addition to tea culture, Taoyuan offers a wide range of cultural and scenic experiences. Known for its agricultural produce, local cuisine, and its proximity to TSMC’s global headquarters in Hsinchu, Taoyuan also features attractions such as the Chung Yuan Cultural and Creative Park, a repurposed military site now used for markets, workshops and festivals. A visit to the Shihmen Reservoir offers breathtaking views of the Dahan River winding through ancient canyons.

Tainan, Taiwan’s ancient capital, is the ideal place to experience traditional culture and temple heritage. The city is rich in historic sites and is famous for its traditional delicacies, temple tours and green energy and orchid industries. Visitors can explore ancient temples, enjoy scenic boat rides or take part in an authentic tea ceremony, making Tainan a must-visit destination for cultural immersion.

A blend of Western, Japanese and Chinese cultures, 70 per cent of Taiwan is covered by spectacular mountain landscapes. Taichung, the largest city in central Taiwan, is an ideal base for exploring the entire island. Or enjoy a walking tour taking in beautiful Taichung Park, architectural landmarks and art before enjoying a night market street food tour.

Delegates meeting in the unique Asia New Bay in Kaohsiung, a vibrant metropolis renowned for its bustling port, can enjoy exploring attractions such as the Lotus Pond, adorned with ornate temples and pavilions, and delicious street food at the lively Liuhe Night Market.

Delight your delegates with the rich culture that abounds in Taiwan and ensure they leave enriched by experiences that go beyond the convention hall.
