Budapest – the glittering Pearl of the Danube
Alongside Budapest’s many attractions for international association events – from the state-of-the-art HUNGEXPO to elegant gala dinner venues and many new hotels – its easy accessibility and excellent value for money mean the Pearl of the Danube is more enticing than ever
When the 9th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology took place in Budapest in July, the Budapest Convention Bureau provided five-day public transport passes to ensure delegates could travel with ease and as sustainably as possible between event venue HUNGEXPO and the vibrant city centre. A showcase of the city was also on offer during the prestigious annual congress.
Premier congress venue
HUNGEXPO, the city’s premier Congress and Exhibition Centre, completed a major refurbishment and development project in September 2021. It now offers a state-of-the-art convention venue with a plenary room seating 2,000 and 23 breakout rooms. With 70,000 sqm of event space and eight event halls, it can accommodate up to 15,000 people.
Memorable gala dinners
Hungary’s beautiful and historic capital sits at the heart of Europe and offers an exceptional choice of gala dinner venues. From luxurious hotels to historic palaces and majestic castles, the city's iconic landmarks, such as Buda Castle and the Hungarian Parliament Building, serve as breathtaking backdrops for grand dinners and receptions.
For networking events, Budapest offers a vibrant and diverse nightlife scene from live music, jazz clubs and skybars to District VII, the Jewish Quarter, popular for its bars, pubs and clubs. Boat parties on the Danube allow guests to enjoy music, drinks and food while taking in the stunning views of Budapest's illuminated landmarks.
The country’s gastronomy is also attracting international attention with increasing numbers of Michelin starred and recommended restaurants as well as excellent catering companies for large events.
Investing in infrastructure
A comprehensive development programme in the city since 2017 has attracted huge investment. In the last few years, more than 60 new hotels have opened, while numerous castles, fortresses, beaches and spas have been improved and renovated throughout the country.
Some of the big-name openings include a new W Budapest and Hard Rock Hotel Budapest while a 332-room dual-branded Ibis-Tribe will open this year.
