Describe your perfect day at work

My perfect day is when I can glide through my to-do list and tick things off one by one, it is satisfying and leaves me feeling accomplished when everything is complete.

How do you respond when your day gets off to a bad start?

I pause, write down everything that needs doing, and prioritise the items that truly need my immediate attention. I focus on getting those right first before moving on to the next task.

Do you have any work rituals?

I do! I use a standing desk and a wobble board. I have to remind myself not to slouch, and even though I’m standing, I still need to remember to wobble.

What’s your work Spotify playlists?

I have playlists for different moods, but when I need a lift or want to shake off a bit of stress, bhangra beats are my go to, they energise me instantly.

How do you unwind?

I take my dog Ernie for a walk, he is literally a fluffy bundle of joy. His antics make me smile, and I love how he lives in the moment. He is afraid of cats and big dogs, so he will come and stand beside me, and once his perceived danger has passed, he is back to his cheerful self.

How do you stay focused?

I write everything down in a notebook and make a list. The list sometimes keeps growing, but I do love the simple pleasure of crossing things off.

How many meetings do you have every day?

Some days there are none, which is blissful because it lets me get on with my day job. I know meetings are work too, but I am often aware of tasks piling up, and it can make the working day feel that bit longer.

Delegator or doer?

Definitely a doer. We have recently expanded our team, and working out who does what has been a bit of a challenge. That said, I love the idea of growing our horizons, and effective delegation is key to making that happen.

WFH - triumph or disaster?

I love working from home. We picked up an eight week old pup - Ernie - in December 2021. The puppy stage was intense but over quickly. Ernie reminds me to take proper breaks, step away from the screen, and go and walk in the park.

What’s your dream job?

It will probably never happen now, but I would have loved to explore the ocean bed. There is so much we do not know about the sea, and I am fascinated by its mysteries.

What’s been your most memorable event to date?

Years ago I was invited to an Alice in Wonderland themed event in Harrogate with giant furniture, people on stilts, and playful “drink me” and “eat me” labels on the food. It was wonderfully immersive. When we returned to Rudding Park, the GM had arranged drinks, nibbles, and even getting our nails done.

Another standout was being hosted for a picnic by QHotels. We were coached to Warwick Castle for an outdoor concert and treated to Champagne and picnic fayre while enjoying live music. Unforgettable.

What event are you currently working on?

We are working on our Annual Scientific Meeting in October. Last year we won the Cvent BEST Newcomer of the Year award, which still makes me so proud. This year we are putting our Cvent Attendee Hub App through its paces and trying to use all available features. The data we will harvest from this year’s event will create the template for ASM 2026.

I am excited to put the app Cvent have provided through its paces and use it to its full potential. We are introducing several new features this year, from scanning delegates into sessions to surveying them before they arrive. The insights we gather through this and other Cvent tools will be invaluable for planning next year’s event, which is already on the back burner, quietly simmering away.

What would be your dream event to work on?

One that goes exactly to plan. We always expect the unexpected and run through scenarios of what could go wrong and how we would respond, it gives us a head start, highlights potential weak links, and lets us fix what we can, or have a strategy ready on site. We do not like surprises, but there is always something that pops up. That is showbiz!
