Organisers, venues, and convention bureaux have been celebrating Global Meetings Industry Day (#GMID2019) – an occasion designed to promote the economic and societal benefit of meetings.

Hundreds of events were taking place to mark the day, founded by the US-based Meetings Mean Business alliance four years ago, which shines a spotlight on the industry and its legacies.

Sherrif Karamat, president & CEO of the Professional Convention Management Association, said: “We experience every day how business events drive economic outcomes for local communities and social progress around the world. On Global Meetings Industry Day, the world sees us as a powerful force, united in our passion to advance society.

“They see us as tireless advocates of a $1trillion industry dedicated to breaking down barriers by organising face-to-face business events. We know that economic good should also bring social good for all people and we are committed to be the platform for positive economic growth and social transformation. Our industry is sending a clear message: meetings are the catalyst for change.”
