Gothenburgs Hybrid+ initiative is commitment to sustainability

Goteborg & Co, which includes the Gothenburg Convention Bureau, has launched a three-step model to help meeting and event organisers plan and execute hybrid events.

The Hybrid+ initiative will offer advice and support for meeting planners that show an interest in hosting a hybrid event in Gothenburg and help them to build a project plan for a successful hybrid event.

Taking it back to the ‘why’, planners can expect Hybrid+ to support them to establish and analyse what the online and in-person audiences need from the event, what the audience experience should include, how to create interactive and engaging content, and what platform and technology are needed.

“The majority of physical meetings and events will be combined with digital elements in the future. Now it’s up to us within the visitor industry to shape the new normal,” Gothenburg & Co project manager for hybrid experiences, Henrik Svensson said.

“The aim of the project is to adopt a strong position within hybrid experiences, thereby future-proofing Gothenburg as a sustainable meeting region in an innovative manner,” he added.

Gothenburg is continually recognised for its sustainability efforts and is accepted as one of the world’s most successful cities for sustainable meetings and events. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, the city ranked top of the Global Destination Sustainability Index.

Ahead of launching the initiative, Gothenburg & Co consulted event venues, meeting organisers and technology suppliers in order to better understand their needs and how it could help them.

He added that the Hybird+ initiative is a “great opportunity to educate and inspire the actors in the city.”

“We are a support on the way to creating a professional and cost-effective hybrid format. Many organisers need help to find their customised meeting format and create a unique experience.”
