Messe Stuttgart, the convention and exhibition centre and trade
fair organiser, has joined a coalition of companies supporting each other in
their sustainability activities.
By signing a climate protection agreement, the company has become
a member of the Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance, an initiative led by the state
environment ministry.
The agreement specifies the climate protection goals of
Messe Stuttgart, which were formulated by the corresponding departments
together with ClimatePartner.
ClimatePartner helps companies to calculate and reduce their
CO2 emissions. Companies are also shown ways in which they can finance climate
protection projects.
The agreement was signed by Roland Bleinroth and Stefan
Lohnert, the two Presidents of Messe Stuttgart, and Thekla Walter,
Baden-Württemberg Environment Minister.
Lohnert said: "We are delighted to have been accepted
as a member of the Climate Alliance. By joining the alliance, Messe Stuttgart
can benefit from the experiences and resources of the network, and also
contribute valuable impetus to the subject of sustainability from the trade
fair and event industry.”
Messe Stuttgart is planning to reduce its entire greenhouse
gas emissions by at least 40.4 per cent up until 2030 compared with the base
year 2019. This represents a reduction equivalent to 1,537 tonnes of CO2. Measures include the conversion of building heating
from natural gas to heat pumps and the installation of additional photovoltaic
systems on the trade fair grounds.
The use of e-mobility by employees,
exhibitors and visitors will also be promoted by increasing the number of
electric vehicle charging stations and an electrification quota of 80 per cent
for all company vehicles.
