Meeting professionals have fallen in love with WFH, survey shows

Event professionals say the shift to hybrid working has made them more productive and improved company culture, according to a comprehensive new survey.

The latest First Look Research survey from Northstar Meetings Group has revealed the full extent of event professionals’ switch to hybrid and remote working models.

A whopping 87 per cent now work from home for part of the week (61%) or work remotely all of the time (26%), with just 13 per cent describing themselves as office based.

Most (72%) were ‘happy’ with their working arrangements and 58 per cent said they thought the increase in hybrid working post-pandemic had increased productivity.

Other key findings:

*Most hybrid workers go to the office 2-3 days a week
*Vast majority cite ‘positive impact’ on company culture
*A majority say hybrid working has made them more productive
*Working with teammates main reason for going to office

NMG-UK editorial director James Lancaster said: “The conversation around remote working and its impact on the events industry has been rumbling on since the pandemic, with proponents and detractors each making their own case. The aim of this survey was to shed some statistical light onto a subject which until now had been discussed in anecdotal terms. 

“As well as focusing on the effect shifting working patterns have had on individual workers, the survey looks at the wider impact on the events industry itself, in terms of the type, size and frequency of the meeting and events clients are now asking event professionals to organise.”

The survey also asks what motivates people to go into the office or work from home, what challenges remote working presents and what impact it has had on hiring and training staff. It asks if respondents have noticed a change in the frequency and type of events they are being asked to organise for their clients as hybrid working has increased generally.

The survey was kindly sponsored by IHG Hotels & Resorts and attracted 358 responses, 70 per cent from UK/Europe, 20 per cent from US, and the balance from rest of world.
